My Drawing Process, Part IV

Posted on December 19, 2024November 18, 2024

I’m not sure why, but I’ve been enjoying documenting my progress and process with my drawings a lot lately. I think it’s been helping me learn artistic skills – and it’s just neat to see how a piece of art evolves from a loose sketch to an intricate bunch of pencil strokes, highlights, and eraser marks.

I recently drew some amanita mushrooms for my dear aunt, perhaps inspired by the blog post I wrote with photos from my cousin. The mushrooms weren’t especially tricky subjects, but I did find that I learned lots – including that drawing animals, especially with expressive eyes, is at the moment my favourite way to express my creativity. Fungi are awesome (this shouldn’t be too much of a surprise, since I literally started a blog about photos of them), but there’s just something about drawing animals that I love so much. Their liveliness and expression are much more rewarding for me to recreate than gills and red caps.

That being said, I still enjoyed working on this piece, and it was fun to see it come to life and take dimension. I’m happy with the experience I gained as well.

If you’re interested in viewing more drawing/art process posts, this is the series so far: Part I, Part II, Part III!
